NEIGHBOR-TO-NEIGHBOR PROGRAM

NEIGHBOR-TO-NEIGHBOR PROGRAM

We do more than just provide electricity

We do more than just provide electricity — we stick with our customers every step of the way. Since you and your neighbors might be challenged by economic and weather conditions, we proudly fund the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program.

CPL Retail Energy, part of the Direct Energy family of brands, has increased its annual contribution to its bill-assistance program by 18 percent to $708,000.This bill assistance program helps families who are struggling to pay their electricity bills. This partnership with 32 community agencies throughout Texas ensures we are able to reach more customers that we service with help paying their bills.

Amy and her husband are a young couple who never had to seek assistance before. They have two small children and Amy works, but her husband lost his job. They had some savings, but things were beginning to get tight.

"We were able to get one time assistance from the Neighbor to Neighbor program to help pay our electric bill. We are very appreciative of this program and the help it offered us when we needed it most."— Amy

Customers may contribute to the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program by checking the "bill assistance" box on their monthly bill (located on the tear-off portion of the bill just below the Total Due). Online-paying customers can help fund this program by checking the "bill assistance" box located under the payment amount in Step 1 and entering the amount they would like to contribute.

Through a local community action agency, those who qualify for the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program may receive up to $700 in assistance during a calendar year. Each agency screens applicants and determines who will receive assistance. To qualify, recipients must be CPL Retail Energy customers, reside at the service address and be financially responsible for monthly electricity expenses. They also must meet the income eligibility criteria.
